Teakwood, dyed polyester. Poles: 120 cm. Flags: 76 x 100 cm.
Six flags on wooden poles are mounted on the facade of The Ski Club Milwaukee. Each flag is designed as a basic geometrical, archetypical flag: The cross flag, the three horizontal divisions, the three vertical divisions, the X cross, the sphere in the middle, and the triangle with two horizontal fields.
The mounted flags recall a reminiscent of a National Day, a headquarter of a political party, or perhaps a company, but they propose a new reading, now toned in six different skin colors embracing all nationalities - hoisting the flags for humankind. The territorial and cultural characteristics represented by national flags are blurred as the conventional flag colors have been manipulated into new formations. The sense of authority and national state dissolve in favor of its new celebration and plural position.
