Potential Energy is a musically staged performative act involving a lit genie lamp, petroleum coke, collected textiles from around the world and a choreography of human and bodily urgency. Dressed in light blue costumes, the artists conduct a ritual, a healing process, an act of hope. Potential Energy is a live performance by Hesselholdt & Mejlvang featuring the musician and composer Mika Forsling and trumpet player Ellen Pettersson. The performance is an attempt to influence and connect energy flows to embrace our imperfect world. The work seeks to grasp the conflict between our dependence on power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources (petroleum) and the nature we need to protect to survive as human beings.
