Goldilocks and the Three Pigs, 2011

Taxidermy pigs. L 75 - 150 cm.

Three pigskins with stuffed heads lie on the floor, mimicking the familiar image of a tiger or polar bear rug in front of the fireplace. It evokes memories of hunting lodges, big-game hunters, and exclusive indulgence.
The use of the number three and the fairytale motif of "trip trap" shoe sizes is also clearly present in the work. The title refers to Goldilocks, who in her mischievous escape comes upon the house in the woods. However, the three bears that Goldilocks encounters have here been transformed into industrially farmed pigs – the icon of Danish agriculture at its most unromantic.
The use of cultural codes and familiar elements from reality points to the world as something known and intimate. But this familiarity is continually disrupted, and a single, clear interpretation of the work is not possible. The three pigs exist in an alternate reality where nothing is quite as it seems.
